    Sounds like PAWS...Have you changed any of the nite time rituals? Are you still taking the Valerian/melatonin (can't remember what you were using)? Odd dreams are the norm. It is like the brain re-calibrating from early childhood (or earlier) to present as it heals. Also common are drug using dreams
    You have the right attitude (as usual) and you know this to shall pass.
    Congratulations on 61 days = though i am disappointed you didn't post it in some unusual way like you had been doing. LOL

    Hey Gang....thanks for the replies. M....I will always be here for a long time. Going no where, just not posting as much. I am sure once winter hits I may have more time on my hands, but right now filling my days with things to go and loving every minute of it!

    Friend..interesting you asked if anything has changed in my rituals. Yes it has. I was/am trying to get off of using the valerian root and benadryl routine. But I just may get back at it as it may get me back to where I was. Just wanted to eliminate any pills...even it was just those. Funny..for many years I would pop a pill for anything and evrything, I am no the exact opposite..I am now anti-pill for anything! One extreme to the other...go figure! LOL.

    RTM..glad to hear from you..got some reading up on a few threads to get caught up with everyone. And yes indeed....Rocking is my buisness, and buisness is good!

    And to my good friend with the PM...not gonna name names here to protect the innocent...LOL...thanks for the suggestions on sleep. Makes all the sense in the world, as that is exactly what happens! Direct hit! Will get into more details on this in my next post when I have time. Was up like friggin Clock Work Orange again this am...4:30...Eyes wide open! But...I did sleep for 5 1/2 hours before that...so all is cool!

    Hey Friend,

    You can bump me anytime you would like. LOL! As for trips...funny you ask. My son and I are heading out camping to our normal haunt this Friday. We are both playing hookey form work/school for the day to go and get camp all set up for the weekend. The place we go does a "halloween weekend" all through October and the have lots of activities for the kids, people decorate their sites all up, and the kids do trick-or-treating through the place Saturday as well. As many of you know, I am a big kid at heart as well, and I love halloween big time. I have a few costumes that I wear for the holidays amd I go all out. Our campsite will be pretty awesome by the time I set it all up. Lights, sound, props, fog...the kids go nuts...and my house for the 31st is over the top. The entire neighborhood waits to see what I cook up each year. 1 year I was sick for the holiday and did not do my usual gig, and so many people were disappointed that night I felt horrible I did not pull it off.

    So we have at least this weekend of fun comming up, and hope to get to a few college games before we put the motor home to rest for the season.

    Still feeling great, and can not complain about a thing. Well, OK, yeah I could, but it is no biggie....just the same old same old, just about everyone would comeplain about. If anything....there is not enough time in the day to fit in everything I want to do.

    Hey ODR....been kind of quiet around here lately. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing!:confused:

    Just wanted to drop on by and say hello to all. I am doing well and enjoying life pill free. Indeed it is a very nice way to be now. My only issue remains to be my battle for a sound nights sleep. I do sleep mind you and some of it pretty darn good. But I will go on streaks of always waking at the same time. It is now 3:30. Then I struggle to get back to sleep, and when I do it is light, and usually filled with odd dreams. The other night we had a heck of a thunder storm blow through in the middle of the night. Did my 3:30 awakening...when I managed to doze back off I had a dream I got hit by lightning in the top of my head and that it came back out of me through my arm and made a big hole in my elbow!

    Someone made a suggestion to me that when I awoke and tried to go back to bed, think of a very pleasant place, or trip you took, and think of that only...in as much detail as possible. Because I know when I wake up I tend to worry about getting back to sleep, and then think of things I need to do and before you know it my mind is going at warp speed and can not get back to sleep. I have fouind that some nights this trick works....others my mind wanders away too easily and it takes me an hour or more to doze back off.

    But I suppose some odd dreams and a bit of "lack of sleep" is a small price to pay for where I was a few months ago.

    So to all out there...continue to fight the good fight...get yourself pill free...well worth the battle....and victory is oh so sweet!

    Hey Cat...earlier on when I would consistently wake up in the middle of the night I discovered something helpful. This may sound ridiculous, but it worked for me many a night. Get out of bed, and stand in the bedroom. Just keep standing there until you can't " stand" it anymore, pun intended. Then, jump back in bed.
    Usually I would stand there for the better part of ten minutes, I was so tired as it was that this was a struggle to do..When Ijumped back in the rack, I was so relieved I would usually fall back out a few more hours until daybreak.....

    Hey Chute...well ya know what...I will give just about anything a shot if it will work, gimmick, crazy, insane...whatever. Just stand there huh:rolleyes:! Will give it a shot in the next day or 2 and let ya know if it works. Thanks for the info!

    Still taking 2 Valerian root and 1 benadryl before bed....sleep great from 10-3:30! Then it is back to the rotasserie impression trying to get back to sleep.

    I am gonna try this. I usually just give up and get up. Coming to accept this, anything more then 4 hours is a gift.

    I so miss your daily posts. You crack me up! Rotisserie impression LOL! I bet your sense of humor got you through some tough times. You did it for me...another ear to ear smile!
    Bless you Cat...I need those smiles...of course nothing can make me smile like my granddaughters!
    I also read in some other post that if you put your hand on the wall and only think about that you fall asleep again.
    I myself, did the OH CRAP...it's only 4am when i woke up in a panic today. Urghh..did not think about the hand/wall thing but if it happens again tonight you can be sure i will be Standing with my Hand on a wall!

    Hey Gang....overall I am doing well, but the past few weeks has thrown me a curve ball in the sleep department. I went from sleeping nicely 8 hours a night...to 6......to 4......to 2....and the other night a whole 1 1/2 hrs. Did alot of reading here and there and see in the PAWS area that sleep is 1 of the biggies! Sure as heck is!!!

    So after consulting a few people here I came up with a plan for the next week and see where it lands me. I was on 3 valerian root and 1 benadryl. So I am wanting to try my best to stay "al natural" here so last night I loaded up. I actually got tired taking pills! LOL.

    I went with 3 valerian root, 2 melatonin, 1 magnesium, 1 5HTP, and 1 Benadryl. Now I am not going to say I slept like a baby, but it was the first night in a while I was able to stay in bed all night. Woke up about 4 or 5 times, but was able to fall back asleep each time. Some better than other, but I slept. Now...it could also of been exhaustion form 4 rotten nights of sleep in a row....but I am going to go with the pills for now.

    Will report back on Monday or so how the weekend goes. I am almost not looking foward to the weekend for the first time in a long time. My wife wants me to paint the living room. I HATE to paint! I would rather scrape my head with a cheese grater! Oh well....the things we do for our wives!

    Hey Hey Hey ODR...just wanted to post a quick update on my sleep issues. Seems the above post has done well for me so far. I now get a good 6-8 hours of good sleep each night. I still wake up before I want to mind you, but at least the sleep I do get is much better than before. Maybe I should just go to bed later...LOL!

    Greetings ODR...just wanted to swing on by and say hello to all. Things are going along very nicely for me at this point, but sleep is still an issue on some nights. Can not put a finger on what makes some nights good and others bad, but I will just deal with it at this point.

    Also wanted to wish each and every one here a Happy Thanksgiving!

    The sleep thing I found after a while was not neccecarily pause! Alot of people have sleep issues! My body and mind is extremely sensitive to different substances other than opiates! For me caffiene had huge impacts on my sleep patterns as well as my blood sugar levels! How much white Bleached flower! Alot of my sleep pattern depended on if I burned the the glycogen in my blood by exercise! Glycogen is the first thing burned when doing anytype of cardio movement! Runners drink chocalate milk to replenish glycogen quickly! If I do something active it burns this glycogen on a daily basis so my body has to replace it! I tend to sleep better when doing it! Also by elliminating any form of stimulent or fast acting carb from diet! I also beleive there is a blood brain barrier that is crossed when we take opiates! If you look at what is put in the blood by the diet that we eat! I found that there was almost a direct correlation of how my thoughts can be effected by the types of things that I eat! ( fast acting carbohydrates that flood the Bloodstream with sugar directly enter the mind and cause similiar patterns that opiates create) (glucose Suchrose lactose) Some people call it the sugar blues! The more stable i keep my spike of blood sugar by watching the things i eat the better I sleep and think! When I am watching I sleep like a baby when I go crazy like this christmas I do not sleep as deep or as well! I try and keep my balance of proteins and carbs and fats at 50 percent protein 30 percent good carbs(veggies) 20 percent fats! also burning that glycogen on a regular basis keeps the sleep pattern normal! Exercise! well sorry for the long post!

    Funny to see the post you left me. I was going to put something on here yet again that I am still in dire straights on the sleep issue. Many have said exercise...I would love to do so. Not sure how to fit it in to my work schedule except on the weeekends. I am up at 5am....home at 6pm....time for dinner...done with that by 7-7:30. Guess I could try and fit something in at 8:30 but then scared it would "jack" me for while afterwards. I usually go to bed at 13:30-11:00 now. Then wake up again any where from 2-4am and then struggle to fall asleep. If I do, it always seems to be right as the alarm clock goes off. This morning was a 2am deal. Nothing at all after that. Maybe I should jump on the treadmill in the middle of the night! Anyone with thoughts on that? Instead of turning the TV on and laying on the sleep sofa...put in a few miles on the treadmill and then lay back down?? Who the heck knows.

    Ya know at this point I am over 5 months out since my last pill. I thought the taper was a pain in my butt. Lack of sleep sucks. But hey isn't a big saying here it will all pass in time. I will wait it out and see if I can find a way to exercise. Probably about 5-6 years ago I was a running freak. Had to get at least 6 miles in a day or I was freaking out. But then I had a completely different work schedule and had time on my side then.

    Been clean from pain pills since July now! Feeling great! OK...with the exception of my "quest for sleep thread"! LOL. Small price to pay to be where I am at now, versus where I was last year at this time.

    Greeting ODR Family. I figured I would bring this thread back around 1 last time. Reason being that this Sunday, July 17th will mark my 1 year anniversary of being pill free. Was it an easy journey after the last pill. Yes and know. A few physical symptoms, but my long taper enabled me to pretty much have it kicked by the time I took my last little half pill. I am so happy to have beaten the addiction to the side on my own terms, and my own way. With the support of my family and a few close friends the demons are gone forever and will not be allowed back in my life for any reason. Do I think of the pills at all any more. Yes and no to this one as well. I never think of them in a using sense, or need them to cope with things. I think of them because of dropping by here and watching others go through the same struggle I did.

    I am indeed here to tell you it can be done, you have to want to do it for yourself. If you want it bad enough it can be achieved. Do I know I have it beat...I can say a big hell yeah to that one. Why would I say that? Life threw me a major curve ball a bit ago that I will not go into detail at all here, but the best thing I can say that may have come out of it all.....is never for one moment during these times have I thought of taking anything to make myself feel better. Yeah Cat!

    I will continue to hang around here for a bit I am sure.....but like one of the most helpful and well spoken people here Melloncholly once said, at some point it will be time to close the book and walk away. But given my tendancy to want to help others, I just may not be able to put it down for a while yet.

    My many thanks to those that have taken time over the past year and few odd months I have been around here. Your kind words and support have gone a long way with me and for that I can never thank you all enough!

    1 year.....heck that is also 3.1535999999999997e+25 Attoseconds! Thats a big number!
