Janice, how are you this morning? You aren't at work, are you?

naw...I work from home anyway....freelance LA.

but, I am much better. the massage helped enormously. she (my masseuse) was indeed my HP for a coupla hours. She did for me what I could not do for myself....helped my back.

so...once again...the fear of the worse....simply fear. nothing more. squandered the hours.....

yea, so the pain is back...worse....and all i wanna do is take medication like a freakin normal person.

can't get a massage, Advil isn't helping...hot bath didn't help. just reeling with pain. and alone with an asleep 8-year old.

    blows.

honestly...i called my sponsor in tears about an hour ago. I just need to accept what is....therein lies my current struggle.

I read your post to mean that you were accepting the pain and not taking any pain medication to mitigate it.

If that's correct, it looks like you suffer from the same malady that I have too during varying bouts of acute</u> physical pain.

And I'm going to say this very carefully in that the majority of members on this site are either not clean...yet...or very newly clean who have not had the obsession removed...yet.

I don't want any misperceptions. I am writing to you, Janice. Janice who is recovered.

Check your agenda, your motives and intent. Check them again with your sponsor and then accept the fact that there are times to take the damn pain medication.

Martyrdom is not part of being recovered.

And of course, it goes without saying, have someone dole them out to you 'cuz neither of us are freaking normal peeps.

Okay, darlin'....yes, hold off for a bit if you're able to without "suffering" unncessarily.

Should you go to the ER, other than G-d, will someone else be with you?

I know you said you'd wait a couple hours, but I think you should go. If I understand you at all ... it's gotta be pretty bad for you to be in this much pain. Why hang out and wait to see if it gets worse?

ignore me if this is bad advice but....if the massage helped, why not get another massage?

  16. arlenewla

    arlenewla Well-Known Member

Ariel...I'm not ignoring you, hun'...and I would take this a step further.

Knowing Janice as I believe I do, its gott'a be pretty bad for her to put this out here to her sponsor and us.

Janice will, with G-d in her life, her sponsor's direction and safeguards, make the next right decision for herself. Of that, I have no doubt.

And darlin'...if you should finally make the decision, after seeing a physician, that you do require pain medication...remember (as I know you will) that you ain't in control. I never again want to wish you a long and painful detox.

janice, i'm sorry if this is going to make this anymore confusing for you than it already is but....i have to say that i firmly disagree with everyone else. i am SO sorry you are in pain. pain sucks. pain is awful. what else have you tried for the pain? have you tried an anti-inflammatory? won't an opiate just mask the pain anyway? wouldn't it make more sense to try and heal the problem?

i'm sorry, but i do not think opiates have suddenly become your solution. i think that if you take a pill today, you are going to feel worse. i think your physical allergy to opiates is going to kick back in, and i fear that your recovery, strong though it may be, could be in jeopardy. i fear that everything you have worked for, all the changes we have seen in you over the past--i dont know, how long has it been, janice, seven months?--could dissipate once you get a taste in your mouth for more pills.

i dont know, janice. i am quite scared about this idea, because i have seen just how far you have come recently. that is not to say that you couldn't get pills and keep your sobriety and your recovery intact. however, it makes me nervous that you are considering something like this so quickly, when it seems like there are so many available options that you have yet to consider. that is what struck me....and i know, you said you don't want to go, you are trying to put up with the pain....but i don't know. i'm just so, so uneasy about this whole thing. and i know i'm not your sponsor and i don't have much recovery time and i'm really young and you might not even have read down this far because everyone else seems to have advised quite differently. but...i can't just say nothing because this is how i truly feel. at the very least, i would say don't just have your sponsor or a friend in the know with you at the hospital. i would tell the doctors that you are an addict and that you don't want opiates. there are just so many other options available to you. so many other pain relievers that you can try first.

    just be careful.
