I'll let you know in a day or two when I pull them out. I have mostly folk music and soul. I know I have the LP Eve of Destruction by Barry McGuire in there - that's an old one :)

So, this Barry McGuire song was quite influential, yeah? I'd never heard of it before now, but the comments on YouTube seem to indicate that it was a really galvanizing song at the time.

yes it was an early "protest" song. 1965 I was in 10th grade :) It was a hit and was played on regular AM radio so it got a ton of exposure - more so than the early Dylan songs like "The Times They are a Changing".

Here’s some infectiously-catchy Christian music for folks who don’t ordinarily listen to Christian music or actively seek out anything rigidly defined by that particular faith, like myself.

It’s from gospel/indie pop duo the Welcome Wagon. Their religious bona fides are solid: Vito Aiuto and Monique head a progressive congregation called the Resurrection Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn. Indie cred is established, too, with production spearheaded by wunderkind Sufjan Stevens.

I love Mr. Bocelli, matter of fact he's here in Tampa Dec 4??
His climb to fame, his story, is incredible.
This looks like the auditorium he built in the countryside, behind MaMA's house?? as a dedication to "SILENCE".
    Great post!

Hey peacenik, made it over to your thread. I have been on a 90's kick lately, lots of Alice in Chains, lots of Violent Femmes, and this song stuck out to me as I listened to it last night.

Oh I also posted this in the thread I made but I'm going to let that one die and just post in here. This is my go to song when I'm feeling the need to escape through music.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone :) We're having a great day out here in California. Man, so mch to be thankful for - this is the best and most appropriate holiday for a recovering addict.

I've come a long way and through all these years in recovery it's been with Chris and though it hasn't been always a smooth path, I guess Chris is who I'm most grateful for in this recovery.

So this song by Paul Brady I dedicate to her:
after all is said and done,
    you are the only one

Well I admit I'm very late to the party on this one. Like one of the commenters said I can't believe I used to think I didn't like Adele. :)

I've been watching "House" again lately. The show is ending next week and I'm feeling some of that feeling of loss that I go through......
I figured out some time ago that as a kid I was unable to deal with disappointments. It's one of the things that went into my becoming an addict.

So anyway, I like the show, House is an opiate addict, they are always playing exactly the sort of music I love, and then I realized, the hospital where House works is in Princeton, where my brother died this past year.

I flew back when I heard he was doing bad but he died before I got there. It was the first time I had been back to New Jersey since moving out to California 10 years ago. Mark was just 53 years old. He was the "lost child" in our family, the fourth of five boys, and he was so quiet that it surprised the heck out of me when he scored 1500 on his college boards and went off to study Chinese.......

Well I'm not going to go on but I do have some feelings coming up and I miss my brother.

On "House" the other night they played this song. I thought right away it was Kathleen Edwards but I didn't know she had a new album. She's really good if you like that folky style that I do....
