Not sure why you are having trouble, I see some members have pictures and avatars even some members who havent been here since 2010. Their pics transferred over.

Aumua, I was able to add this picture of Kapalua Bay to my profile. I'll look and remind myself how it's done and report back :)

PS. OK - Look in the upper right of the main page. You'll see three headings. Username, Inbox, and alerts. Hover your cursor over your username and a window will drop down. In the left column you'll see "avatar" click on it and it will open up a window where you can upload your photo.

I actually have a picture for my avatar. What I would like is a picture for my signature, that goes at the bottom of all my posts. I had that before the change. Anyways, it's not that big a deal, just on my wish list. The missing posts are a bigger deal, que non?

Well I just looked Aumua and under signiture there was an icon up above to add the url of a picture. I put one in of me and I'll try it out.......

    edited to add:

seems like it works so just go to your profile click on signature, and if you look at the top there are a bunch of tags, icons or whatever. The one for a picture looks like a picture of two mountain peaks :) Your picture will need to be saved somewhere with a url.

Ok I didn't see anything, then I refreshed the page and I now I see. Amazing grace I guess.

Probably has something to do with my weird browser setup.

Nice pic! You look just how I imagined you would.

I had a long post written on my personal thread, and the page reloaded or something and it was gone. The back button did nothing. Sigh. I guess I'll try again later, when I get over it.

Oh I'm sorry Aumu. It doesnt appear that we have the auto-save like the last board did either so there's no way for you to recover it. Frustrating huh.

    Spring -

My posts definitely do "auto save" still. I wasn't around before the switchover, so I'm not sure how the old site worked.

For me, this board just pops up a tiny little box down at the bottom of the message box that I am typing in. It appears above the three buttons at the bottom right of the box - right above the far right button "More Options..." In the box it says "Draft saved." The box is fairly easy to miss of you aren't looking for it, it only pops up every three minutes for about three seconds (I timed it during this post, haha). The notification box is almost transparent, so it's hard to see...it's kind of hard to explain but it's kind of see-through...

I access this site on an iPad (using Chrome as a browser). I took a quick look at my personal options. I didn't see anything about auto-saving, so I was assuming it was a site feature, but it sounds like others don't have this. Mine will even save a post for me overnight if I type one up and forget to post it - as long as I am still on the same message/tab when I use my iPad again.

Sorry for the lengthy post, just wanted to throw in my auto-save experience.

Oh! That sounds similar to what we had on our old VBulletin site.
So you're saying your Google Chrome browser supplies that feature, but we don't, right?.

It might be a good idea to switch to the GC browser for those who post lengthy ones often. I use Mozilla Firefox because of the auto spell check. It saves me a lot of time proof reading. I have never used GC tho it's downloaded on my pc. I think I'll give it a try.

    Much thanks for the info!

Actually, I'm unsure if the auto-save option is from Chrome or if it comes something else? I had assumed that it may come with GC but wasn't absolutely certain. However, I think it's worth giving GC a shot to see if that is the difference. I'm not sure what else it could be if it's not the browser...so, yes, I think it is, but I am not certain...

    Good luck!

Wow! I'm impressed! I just wrote a longish post and before I could submit it my computer shut down so I thought it was lost and I would have to start over....but I didnt have to!

I got back on the site, logged back in, went to the thread and there it was waiting to be submitted!

Moral of this story...if you think you lost a post you were working on, most likely you haven't. Be sure to go back to where you were when you lost it and it should be there.

I just now discovered a neat little feature we have...
In order to quote only a sentence or two from a post......on any post, you can highlight any part of it and a reply button will pop up. It will only quote the part you have highlighted.

    Quick question -

You know how on the top right when you are on the main forum page - it has a Members Online (or something similar)? It will say: 7, 1 guest, 2 members, 4 robots - what/who in the heck are the "robots" that they are referring to? Is there a difference between the guest and robots?

Thanks for any clarification anyone can offer!

I was hoping someone would answer your question but since they havent I'll try...I'm pretty sure that the bots are automated programs that crawl the web searching for key words to make custom ads for spamming purposes. But since we have a spam blocker they aren't able to deposit any of their ads or pop ups on this site nor can they access the member list for email addresses.
Guests are actual humans and robots are the programmed machines but I dont know how the heck the board is able to tell the difference. I'm not very tech savvy to begin with so I hope that helped some (and I hope it is correct info}. Anyone feel free to correct me.

And while I'm on this thread...It looks like those who come here via smart phones or tablets dont see all the same features that we laptops see. A good example is the drop down menu when hovering over the inbox in the upper right corner. Apparently it doesnt show up unless your on a computer, but it may have something to do with touchscreen devices so those who use windows 8 may not see it either even if they are on a computer. Feedback is appreciated on this issue..
